🌿 Who is behind Kratoman

This did not start as a business plan. It started as a collecting habit. For more than fifteen years the focus was tea – pu-erh, oolong, and the question of why two leaves from the same hillside can look and smell completely different. Mitragyna speciosa came later, and with it an entire world of leaf veins, harvest timing and drying methods.

What we picked up along the way is hard to look up online. You learn to spot an early-harvested batch by its colour. You can smell whether the material was dried in a drying house or on the ground in the open air. You can tell from the grind whether a modern mill was involved or an improvised one. That knowledge is the actual reason Kratoman exists.

Kratoman is run by a small team focused on European collectors and people with an ethnobotanical interest. No call centre, no ticket numbers – whoever writes to us gets an answer from someone who knows the material.

🔍 How we select

Before a variety enters the range, it goes through the same steps:

  • Verify origin – region, growing area, processing facility. No traceable chain, no listing.
  • Samples first – we never order a bulk quantity blind. Samples, then a decision.
  • Visual assessment – colour, consistency, grind fineness, foreign matter.
  • Aroma profile – fresh, earthy, grassy or musty? Musty is rejected, without exception.
  • Comparison against the current batch – a new delivery has to be at least as good as the last one, otherwise we do not accept it.

Roughly half the samples that reach us never make it into the range. That is not a marketing line – it is simply why our list is so short.

👑 Boutique, not marketplace

Large vendors carry thirty, forty, sometimes more than fifty varieties. That sounds like choice, but in practice it means nobody knows each individual batch any more. We deliberately went the other way.

A concrete example: our Premium Maengda White comes from a fixed source we have kept across several batches – precisely because the leaf profile has stayed consistent. If that changes, we change the source, not the description.

🇳🇴 Origin and quality

Our specimens come from Southeast Asia – mainly Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. The botanical differences between varieties arise from soil, microclimate, maturity at harvest and above all post-harvest handling. How red, green and white leaf material can come from the same tree is covered in detail in our Reading Room: Kratom colours explained.

On laboratory analysis we would rather be honest than impressive: we are working on making batch certificates transparently available, and we say so openly while that is not yet true for every variety. What such a document actually tells you – and how to spot a worthless one – is explained here: How to read a COA document.

⚖ What we deliberately do not claim

This section matters more to us than any sales copy.

Every item at Kratoman is a botanical specimen for collectors. It is intended for collections, herbaria, ethnobotanical study and incense purposes – and it is not intended for human consumption.

Accordingly, you will find no statements about physical effects here, no quantity recommendations and no comparisons with medicinal products – neither in product texts nor in the Reading Room. We describe plant material: leaf shape, origin, maturity, processing, drying, alkaloid profile and aroma. Nothing beyond that.

If a shop promises you something else, that is a reason to look more closely – not a reason to buy there.

💬 Frequently asked questions

Why only nine varieties?

Because we want to know each of them. A larger range could be purchased, but not examined to the same depth. A short list means we can actually stand behind every position on it.

Will I always receive the same batch?

No – plant material is a natural product and batches differ. We compare every new delivery against the previous one and only accept it if the leaf profile matches. Larger deviations we communicate actively.

Where do you ship?

Within the EU. The legal status of Mitragyna speciosa is regulated nationally and varies considerably – we do not ship to Switzerland, for example. Please check the rules in your country before ordering. Details in our legal overview.

Can I ask questions before ordering?

Please do. Questions about origin, batch or leaf profile are welcome – we prefer that to an order that turns out to be the wrong fit.
